Great Weekend

Friday Night
We attended a fundraising event at Kye's for the MDA. A co worker's daughter is the region's ambassador for MDA and she was hosting the event. It was a lot of fun. There were appetizers and lots of games and auctions you could participate in to give more money. I saw several people I knew there. It was hard to talk over the loud music with my scratchy throat so we didn't stay very long but it was fun!

Saturday
I started out with cheering Jonathon and Jesse on in the Papa John's Ten Miler. BD and I hung out trying to find them in the race crowd and then met up with them at the finish line. I've never gone to one of the big races as a spectator. It was really neat to see the crowd cheering the runners on from the sideline. I had fun watching but I missed running the race. Jonthathon hurt his feet in the race. They are still really hurting him. Luckily, he doesn't have to work this week so we're hoping they heal up. We are going to make a trip to Pacers and Racers next weekend to get some better running shoes. It really is all about the shoes!!
I came home and went to the church to help throw Jen Dooley's shower. We had a great turn out. She got many great things to take back to her house! The food looked so good but I still couldn't eat any of it. I got a plate full of the chocolate fountain dip and licked it off of the fruit. Mmmm...good.
Saturday night we kinda took it easy. We watched UofL get beat. bummer...

Sunday
Jonathon and I reported to church for our pre-marriage counseling but his feet were hurting so badly that I told him we could go home. I think he needs to stay off of his feet for a couple days. I don't think he was letting me know how bad they were hurting.

I went over to Heather's house this afternoon. She and Jami had a small shower for me with some friends. Aimee brought Kimberlyn and Jami had Cooper with her. It was so neat to see them side by side. They were born on exactly the same day. At the shower we were blessed with another pile of amazing gifts. I love everything I've gotten!!

Tonight I had to get back to work. I've been planning my curriculum for the week, taking care of some Relay for Life paperwork (I'm JJ's team captain), and making my to-do list for the week. I can't believe that every major thing going in my life will culminate in the next three weeks. My IUS Educational Leadership exit interview is at the end of April and the wedding will be in just nineteen days! It's going to be a stressful three weeks but I'll truly be able to relax on the honeymoon.

I hope everyone who had Spring Break had a good one!! Here's to a productive week....

Fun Afternoon

Today we went to the court house and applied for our marriage license. It was super easy. I can't believe how it easy it was....seems like it should have been harder.

We spent the rest of the afternoon running some "boring" errands together but we made it fun by cracking jokes with each other. We laugh about the fact that trips to Target will soon become our "dates."

We went to lunch and my throat was hurting so badly that I just ordered a side of mashed potatoes and spinach. Jonathon got a big, juicy cheeseburger and made sure to tell the waitress that I just had my tonsils out. I laughed....you could tell he didn't want anything to think that he wouldn't let me eat. I jokingly said I should have told the waitress, "My boyfriend thinks I'm fat" like in the movie How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. Ha!! It was pretty funny.....maybe you had to be there.

We haven't merged our money yet. That won't happen for another month or so but we've already started the "asking" each other about purchases. I bought some dresses (GREAT CLEARANCE PRICES!) this week so while we were shopping at Target, he found a little toy helicopter he really wanted. He almost didn't get it, but I said, "I got dresses" so he decided to splurge. It was a cute moment.

Anyway, tomorrow morning Jonathon is running the Papa Johns Ten Miler and he's super excited about it. I'll be waiting at the finish line on this one. I'm not supposed to exercise at all for another four days.

Okay, it's time for my afternoon nap. This throat is still killin'.

Life without Working..

See, me without a job = blog post everyday!!

Today I am feeling way better. I have noticed that normal coloring has returned to my cheeks. I'm not just talking about from the tonsil surgery either...I'm talking about how miserable I've looked for the past year. I'm very hopeful that this mono/tonsil mess will be over very soon!!

I really got some things knocked off the to-do list today. I did some things for Jen's shower and I found some clothes for Jonathon and myself. Yay! I love shopping. I didn't go overboard or anything. I found some great deals.

I also stopped over at Heather's and visited Zoe and Alex. Their growing family is so cute! I had a great time catching up with Heather too. I wish I could have stayed longer but I needed my afternoon nap. (Remember I'm still recovering.)

Now, I'm packing my bags for an overnight stay with my cousin Kelli in Bowling Green. I am shadowing her principal tomorrow. The elementary school sits next door to Western Kentucky University so we get to wear Western shirts to school tomorrow. Fun! It will be a quick trip back because I need to do some things around this house. Jonathon is coming by tomorrow night. I haven't seen him all week. He has had busy times in Frankfort.

Happy Wednesday!

Getting Things Done...

Today I woke up ready to get some work done. My body is ready to go, but my throat is not ready yet. It's not fun being tied to the house!! I did go out to run a few errands that didn't require me talking very much. I also got a lot accomplished with my IUS portfolios that are due at the end of April.

I got a letter in the mail today from Brother Gentry. He is the leader of the mission that I worked with last summer in Malawi. If you have time to see the work being done there, check out the Heart 4 Malawi link on the blogs list. I was reminded today of all the work being done there and the minimal worries we have here in America. It kind of makes having a little tonsil surgery seem like a piece of cake.

Tonight Jennifer Dooley came by with her mom to check on me. How sweet! Her bridal shower is on Saturday and I'm helping with it. I was in charge of sending the invitations. When she gave me her invitation list I thought it seemed short but she told me that she was just going to tell some people about it. Well we figured out tonight that I didn't send any invitations to the people she had listed on the back of the notebook sheets she gave me. Doh!! (Why didn't I check the back? Who doesn't check the back of an important list of people?!?) If she doesn't have a good turn out it's all my fault!! Jen, I'm so sorry! If you know Jen Dooley...we are having a shower for her on Saturday....come one, come all!!

I also walked across the yard to see Jami and Cooper for a little bit tonight. He's getting so big! He was smiling a lot and keeping himself busy. What a cutie.

Okay, I'm headed back to the couch. Too much excitement for one day....

Thank you notes...

So if you get a thank you note from me and my handwriting is sloppy or something is misspelled...just remember that I was probably under the influence of pain medicine.

Feeling groggy....

No Talking

If you know me at all you know that I'm a talker. This no talking thing is not really for me. I spent the whole day sleeping or working on the computer. There are several people I could have met for lunch today to catch up with....but no talking. There were many people I could have called to make plans and arrangements for various things coming up...but no talking. It's not just that the doctor doesn't want me to....it really hurts to talk. So, when the phone rings, I have about thirty seconds of good voice and then I have to just let the person on the other end go.

I can't wait to be able to talk again....I miss talking....Praise God for the ability to talk!!

Sleeping...

That's all I've done for nearly 48 hours! I have to admit....It's been nice. Jonathon took this one yesterday....We were supposed to be watching basketball games but my pain medicine had other plans for me.....HA!

Happy Easter

I hope everyone had a great Easter celebrating with family! Praise God for sending Jesus to save us all!! He is Risen...

Not so Bad...

The tonsils came out yesterday and so far it hasn't been too bad. I am taking the pain meds round the clock....a few times just right before they are due. I don't even want to chance the pain getting worse!

Jonathon was a great help yesterday. I came straight home and went to bed while he hung out in the living watching movies, organized some kitchen things, and built a shelf for the garage. He would wake me when it was time for medicine and then I would go back to bed. He's already practicing that "in sickness and in health" part!! I got so lucky!

I tried to talk way too much yesterday so I've turned my phone off today. It kills me to do it, but I'll return the calls when I can talk. There's too much to do in the next couple weeks for me to get an infection or a set back!!

I hope everyone has a GREAT Easter weekend. I'll be sitting here healing.....quietly!!

:) Karen

Fun Thursday..

Yesterday was a lot of fun!

I had school....that went really well.

After school, the staff and teachers had a bridal shower for me. Shirley Flynn really outdid herself on the decorations. Everything was beautiful!!

I met up with Kathy after the shower to run. It's the first run we've had in 2008. It really felt good!! I miss running with her. We always take a break through the winter months.

I ran home to take a shower and then it was off to the women's Spring Fling at church. If you haven't been to one of these things, you have to plan on going next time. We ate, played games, and exchanged prayer requests. It was a really good time. I won a prize!!

Jonathon met me at the church and we had our photo session for the church bulletin. Let's just say I'm glad that little picture will be tiny. Ugh! Remind me to never wear gray for a photo!! We decided not to order any pictures because we just had engagement pics and the wedding is just around the corner.

I'm up early this morning. I have to be at the surgery center in about an hour. The tonsils are coming out today!! I know it's going to hurt but I can't wait to heal up and feel better. This means I'll be spending my weekend on the couch with some pain killers.

I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend!!

Our Bedding

This is our new bedding set. It came in the mail today from the Bowling Green family. I LOVE IT! I picked it out online hoping it would be as pretty as it looks in the picture. I knew I wanted something bluish and brownish. It's gorgeous! I will feel like a queen sleeping under this stuff!!
I'm not going to make the new bed until after the wedding. Call me sentimental!! Now I can't wait to pick out stuff to decorate the rest of the room. Let's see, I need pictures, curtains, paint, oh my.....

Busy Times..

I've been crazy busy the past few days....where to begin?

I ran the Rodes City Run Saturday morning. I hadn't ran in two weeks. Jesse and I stayed together on this race and we finished. It felt good to get some miles under my feet. It's about time! I'm just about ready to start running Kathy again..

The weekend was full of showers! My family/church shower was Saturday and it was a picture out of Southern Living magazine. My sister and the Stice girls from Bowling Green sure know how to throw a party! I'm still eating off the leftover food. I'll have pictures to post as soon as my picture cd arrives. I didn't have my camera so I'm waiting on pictures from my cousin.

Saturday night Jonathon and I had a boring evening together. We love those!

On Sunday, the cheerleading squad had a shower for me too. They were so cute. I had a great time with the girls and their mothers. I felt so loved!!

Today I had to go get bloodwork done for my tonsil surgery on Friday. I waited and hour and forty-five minutes to get 30 seconds worth of tests ran. FRUSTRATING!

Anyway, I'm home tonight working on thank you cards among some other things. I hope everyone has had a great start to their week!!

Victory for the Pirates....

NO...WE DIDN'T WIN THE GAME.....But it was a victorious season. We lost by one lousy point!! It was an exciting night and all of our boys should be proud. I have to say that our dance team, cheerleaders, and crowd were impressive to everyone last night and tonight. Our little town really produced some support. Go Pirate pride!

Pirate Pride

Last night was the Final Four for my school's boys' basketball team. We pulled out a win by one point!! It was very exciting. Jonathon came to the game because he hadn't seen the cheerleaders perform yet and he had such a good time he's going to come back tonight for the final game.

It's been a good year in our town for sports! Jonathon said he's growing more pride to be a pirate than he did at any school he went to. I guess that's what happens when you move around to thirteen states as a kid though. I'm turning him into a Pirate! Maybe he can be a Hoosier too...I'll keep my fingers crossed....

GO PIRATES!!

A Wonderful Poem

Kim Daniel sent this to me this week in an email. It is the best thing I've read that expresses how I feel as a Christian. I am weak and far from where I need to be in my walk with God. Some of my non-christian friends feel that "church people" judge and are hypocritical. That always breaks my heart to hear. This poem expresses the true nature a Christian should have...None of us should be holier than thou....we all have something to "clean-up" in our lives.......
BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN SISTER
by Maya Angelou '
A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ
that a man should have to seek Him first to find her.'
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean livin'
I'm whispering 'I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven.'
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.
When I say.. 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!'

No Fancy Title...Just an Update...

I met my Bowling Green family on Thursday night for dinner at O'Charley's. My cousins Terri and Kelli were up here for the Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference so Alison, Gracie, Evonia and Jimmy all got a Suite and came along too. I spent the night at the Galt House with them on Thursday because I was attending the conference too. I ended up staying Friday night too because of the weather. It was so much fun just all being together. We didn't do much but sit around and chat but it was good times.

I made my way home this morning to meet Amy Gillespie and Heather Jackson to ride to Lindsey Wolff's baby shower together. Thanks to Amy and Craig who helped me push my car into the driveway!!

We went to the baby shower which was set up like a tea party. Very cute idea! The tea was sooooo good! I'll post a couple pics later. :) Happy baby, Lindsey! I didn't think I was going to get to go to the shower because I have class on Saturdays but the snow cancelled my class. Yay!!!

I'm home now to change clothes and I'll be off to Darin Dooley's wedding reception very soon. He and Samantha got married last weekend in Gatlinburg and now it's time to celebrate.

Jonathon has guard this weekend....so no Jonathon time. I miss you, honey!!!

I hope everyone is having a fun, snowy weekend!!!

Busy Times...

Things have been so busy that I've been feeling that "can't keep it together" feeling. UGH! In the past two weeks I've double-booked myself about three times. I know that most people around me have many things going on as well so I'm not doing the "poor me" talk. I just can't wait until things slow down......Is anyone else feeling that way???

Here's to the weekend....Oh, wait....I'm busy this weekend too.

Here's to June.......
